23 - 25 November 2020

Tarik Black Foundation’s annual Multicultural Event brings CodeCrew of Memphis, Colosseum Sport of Tel Aviv, and Play Vision of Cincinnati in partnership to host a global sport tech development challenge for teens in Memphis and Tel Aviv.  Memphis tech teams compete with Tel Aviv tech teams in a two and a half day sports tech innovation event.  Included is a life and business skills platform where Memphis teens together with Tel Aviv teens address social and business entrepreneurship challenges.

This virtual event for students ages 11-19 will assemble five teams in Memphis and five teams in Tel Aviv, challenging each to build businesses that bring together sports and technology.

Each team will comprise up to five members. Students will participate in workshops on business modeling, prototyping, and pitching.  Each team will be scored by a panel of judges, with winning teams being awarded prizes.  Students will also engage in a number of cultural exchanges and learn about social issues in their respective countries, as they reflect on historical context and recents events.

Tarik Black Foundation launched Taking Back the Future earlier this year.
Taking Back the Future, soon to be the foundation’s name, has four anchor concepts: global, wealth, health, and technology. New programs are designed to provide lessons in these areas. The organization founded by NBA/International professional athlete Tarik Black was launched in 2017 in his hometown, Memphis, TN. In 2019, TBF received the Memphis MPLOY program’s Community Partner Award for innovative programs and providing the largest number of summer internships. The interns participated in TBF’s Summer GLAM (Girls’ Life Academy Memphis) and Sports Careers programs. TRANSFORMATION50 Basketball and Life Skills Camp and Tarik Black’s From Israel to Memphis Multicultural Celebration are among other popular programs. The organization also hosts youth events in the cities where Black plays which have included Houston, Los Angeles, and Tel Aviv.
